About the Clubhouse

What is Clubhouse Living?

Clubhouse Living is an activity center designed to provide meaningful, engaging, and fun activities for individuals with intellectual disabilities and/or autism. Our goal is to create a welcoming place where participants can build friendships, develop skills, explore interests, and have fun.

Who can become a member of Clubhouse Living?

Clubhouse Living is designed for adults with intellectual disabilities and/or autism. Members must be 18 years of age or older to participate.

Is Clubhouse Living a school or day program?

No. Clubhouse Living is an activity center, not a traditional school or day program. Our focus is on recreation, socialization, personal growth, community participation, and developing meaningful life skills. Individuals participate in two activities each month.

What are the goals of Clubhouse Living?
  1. To provide a place where members are excited to attend
  2. Promote social interaction so that friendships develop
  3. Have members learn something new every time they participate in an activity
  4. Have fun!

Our overriding goal is to provide a place where every participant feels welcomed, valued, included, and capable. We want individuals to have opportunities to make choices, try new things, develop independence, and build lasting friendships.

What makes Clubhouse Living different?

We believe that community, friendship, choice, and belonging matter. Clubhouse Living is more than a place to spend time. It is a place where individuals can discover interests, develop skills, form friendships, and become active members of their community.

Activities & What to Expect

What types of activities do you offer?

Activities are designed around participants' interests and include:

  • Arts and crafts
  • Music and dancing
  • Animal and therapy dog activities
  • Cooking and life-skills activities
  • Games and recreational activities
  • Fitness and movement
  • Movies and entertainment
  • Social events and friendship-building
  • Educational and skill-building programs
  • Special events, celebrations, and themed activities
How are activities scheduled?

For the most part, activities are scheduled once per week during each 4-week block. Classes typically last 45 minutes to 1 hour. There is a different activity schedule during each 4-week block. Some classes will continue from block to block, although there will be many new classes offered each block. See the current lineup on our Schedule page.

Can participants suggest activities?

Absolutely! We want Clubhouse Living to be a place built around the interests of the individuals who participate. We encourage participants and families to share ideas for new activities, classes, and clubs.

What should a member bring to their activity?

This depends on the activity. Members should always dress comfortably and wear appropriate clothing and footwear for what they are doing. Members should always bring a water bottle, especially for sports and wellness classes. For art classes, wear clothing you don't mind getting dirty.

Can an individual attend if they have dietary restrictions or allergies?

Please let us know about any allergies, dietary restrictions, or other important needs during the registration process so we can determine appropriate accommodations and safety procedures. This is especially true for our cooking and baking classes.

What happens if a member needs medication during the time they are at Clubhouse Living?

Medication procedures and administration are up to the caregiver who is in attendance with the member. We can provide a private space for this if needed.

Do you accommodate individuals with different support needs?

Yes. We recognize that every individual is unique. We work to create an inclusive environment and adapt activities when reasonably possible to help members participate successfully.

Do caregivers stay with members when they are on site?

Yes. Clubhouse Living is designed to encourage independence while providing appropriate support and, therefore, a caregiver/support person is required to be in attendance with the member. This allows members to receive the attention and support they need from a person that knows them best. In some of our activities, the caregiver/support person is encouraged to participate directly with the individual to promote engagement and participation.

Registration, Costs & Funding

How do I register?

Registration is done online right here on our website. Click the Sign Up button at the top right of the page and complete the registration form. Once that is completed, we will reach out to you and your supports coordinator to plan the next steps. Our Registration Guide walks through every step.

How much do Clubhouse Living activities cost?

Each activity consists of 4 weekly sessions and the cost is $160 per activity. With the purchase of 1 activity session, we offer a second activity session for free to encourage our members to try something new.

How can the membership be paid?

Funding is available through waiver funding, grants (Achieva, etc.), and private pay.

If an individual is enrolled in an ODP waiver program, they are able to receive waiver funding to join Clubhouse Living through Participant Goods and Services, as long as it fits within their waiver budget. This is accomplished by having their Supports Coordinator authorize the cost of Clubhouse Living in the individual's Individual Support Plan (ISP).

If an individual is enrolled in an ODP waiver program and lives in a residential setting (e.g., community living arrangement or life sharing), the individual may be eligible for a grant (e.g., Achieva) to cover the cost of the Clubhouse Living membership, as waiver funding is not an option. This can be accomplished through the Supports Coordinator completing the grant application.

Some of our families pay out-of-pocket for their loved one's Clubhouse Living membership, similar to the cost of youth sports or music lessons. See Ways to Purchase for more detail.

Is Clubhouse Living only for people who live in Berks County?

No. Participants may come from surrounding counties. There are no geographical limits to who can attend Clubhouse Living.
